Are You A Neck Lift Candidate?
A neck lift procedure is personalized according to the needs of the patient. Before the procedure, double-board certified facial plastic surgeon Dr. Mary Lynn Moran will take down details of the patient’s medical history, any medication they are on, and any other cosmetic procedures they have undergone during the initial consultation. She will also discuss your expectations from the surgery. This information is used to help determine if you’d make a good candidate for a neck lift.
A neck lift is ideal for patients who are non-smokers and non-drinkers. Patients who use these substances should inform Dr. Moran ahead of time in order to prevent any issues or complications during the surgery.
A neck lift can be performed as an outpatient procedure, meaning you can safely return home the same day the surgery takes place. It will take a few hours to complete and you will be required to rest after it is over. To begin, Dr. Moran will administer an anesthetic to help you feel comfortable during the surgical process. She will then make small incisions around the ears as well as behind it. An incision is also made under the chin area. After this, the skin and muscles of the neck are lifted. The platysma muscle is tightened and then sewn or sutured. Extra skin and fat are removed, and then Dr. Moran will close the incision area.
A neck lift can address the following problems:
- Deposits of fat under the skin
- Loose neck skin
- Muscle banding around the neck
Dr. Moran can also recommend additional procedures alongside a neck lift. This is ideal for patients who are looking for a more holistic approach to improving their appearance. Procedures such as neck liposuction, which is used to draw the fat out from the neck area, and dermal fillers like Botox, can also be performed with a neck lift. Some patients also opt for facelifts and mini facelifts as well.
Recovering from a neck lift can take several weeks. After the surgery, Dr. Moran will provide detailed instructions on post-operative care. A pressure dressing is applied to the targeted area after the surgery.
The stitches from the procedure are removed after ten days. Although the patient can leave the same day as the surgery, having a family member or friend assist in getting home is highly recommended. make sure to rest and avoid strenuous physical activities during the recovery process.
Most patients recover well enough to return to the work and most normal activities, including moderate exercise, in about 5 to 10 days.
A neck lift improves the appearance of the neck and chin area and restores youthful contours. Together with other procedures such as a facelift or dermal fillers, the whole face can be made to look much younger. The results of a neck lift are long-lasting, however, aging, environmental factors, and factors like gravity can cause sagging skin and signs of aging to eventually reappear.
