A double chin is the result of excess submental fat beneath the jaw. It typically appears due to weight gain, the natural aging process, or genetic factors, and diet and exercise can’t always improve the issue. Prior to Kybella, the only way to fix a double chin was with laser and surgical liposuction – both of which require downtime.

Kybella: A new way Forward

Approved by the FDA, Kybella is composed of deoxycholic acid, which occurs naturally in the body. It works by destroying fat cells, breaking down their membranes. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat anymore, and are subsequently removed from the body through natural processes. The final result is a youthful, firm appearance around the jaw. The treatments are virtually free of discomfort and don’t involve any downtime.

How many Kybella treatments will I need?

The number of Kybella treatments needed will vary from patient to patient, depending on the desired effect and the current extent of the double chin. As such, you and Dr. Moran will work together in designing a custom treatment plan. Most of our Franklin, TN patients can expect two to six sessions spaced one month apart.

For the best aesthetic effect, it’s vital to administer this treatment with multiple small injections. This allows for better targeting of the double chin and ensures that only the fat cells are destroyed.

Where are Kybella treatments performed?

This procedure takes about 30-45 minutes to complete and is routinely performed on an outpatient basis in Dr. Moran’s office.

Is any anesthesia required?

No anesthesia is necessary for a comfortable Kybella treatment experience.

What’s the recovery period?

You should be able to resume your normal activities the same day as the procedure. There’s no downtime, and the treatment should fit easily into your lunch break.

When will I see results?

Your results will appear gradually over several months, so no one will know you’ve had your double chin treated. Many patients experience visible contouring of their chin profile in two to four treatment sessions spaced at least one month apart. Up to six treatments may be administered.

How long will the results last?

When you lose weight, the fat cells simply shrink in size, so they retain the capacity to expand again. With Kybella, the fat cells are destroyed and cleared from the body – so they can’t cause future issues. After your ideal aesthetic profile is achieved, further treatment with Kybella is not expected.
