What is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty, also known as nose surgery or a nose job, is one of Dr. Moran’s signature procedures. When performing rhinoplasty in Nashville, she is able to sculpt a beautiful nose that looks natural; enhance overall facial harmony, and correct impaired breathing caused by structural abnormalities.

  • Average Cost: Starts at $8k (not including facility and/or anesthesia)
  • Typical Recovery Period: 10-14 days
  • Discomfort Level: Mild to Moderate
  • Anesthesia Options: General or Local (in office for minor procedures)

What Can a Nose Job Do For You?

While the shape of your nose is usually the result of heredity, the appearance may have changed due to an injury or prior surgery. Depending on your unique needs, nose surgery can:

  • Sculpt a smaller nose that’s more proportionate to your other facial structures
  • Reduce the width of the nasal bridge
  • Correct visible humps and depressions along the bridge
  • Improve a large, bulbous, drooping, or upturned nasal tip
  • Address nostrils that are large, wide, or upturned
  • Improve nasal asymmetry and deviation

What to Expect During Surgery

After anesthesia has been administered, Dr. Moran will make incisions inside your nose or across the columella – which is the strip of tissue separating the nostrils. Through those openings, she can reshape the structure of the nose. This is accomplished by removing bone and cartilage and grafting cartilage from the septum. In all instances, Dr. Moran makes conservative changes to ensure a natural outcome. She may also change the size of your nostrils by placing incisions in their natural creases. If you reported breathing challenges before nose surgery, Dr. Moran will straighten your deviated septum and ensure that the internal structures of your nose are positioned for healthy breathing. From there, she will redrape the nasal skin and close the incisions.

What is Open & Closed Rhinoplasty?

Both open and closed are techniques used in rhinoplasty, each catering to specific needs. In an open rhinoplasty, an external incision is made on the columella, the strip of tissue between the nostrils, allowing the surgeon broad access to nasal structures. This approach is ideal for intricate modifications. Conversely, closed rhinoplasty incisions are made within the nostrils, concealing any scars. While this method offers quicker recovery, it might not be suitable for complex alterations. The choice between open and closed depends on the patient's goals, the surgeon's expertise, and the extent of required changes.

Benefits of Nose Surgery

Nose surgery offers a range of aesthetic and functional benefits tailored to individual needs:

  • Enhanced Aesthetics: Rhinoplasty can modify the size, shape, and angles of the nose, bringing it into better harmony with the rest of the face.
  • Improved Breathing: For those with structural issues, such as a deviated septum, rhinoplasty can open up nasal passages, facilitating easier breathing.
  • Boosted Confidence: By addressing self-perceived imperfections, rhinoplasty often leads to increased self-esteem and confidence in one's appearance.
  • Correction of Birth Defects: Congenital issues like nasal asymmetry or masses can be addressed, restoring both form and function.
  • Revision of Previous Procedures: Rhinoplasty can correct unsatisfactory results from prior nasal surgeries, refining or restoring the nose's appearance.
  • Facial Balance: By adjusting the proportions of the nose, rhinoplasty can create a more balanced and symmetrical facial appearance.
  • Reduced Snoring: In some cases, a rhinoplasty can alleviate issues like chronic snoring, leading to better sleep for patients and their partners.

Liquid Rhinoplasty A Non-surgical, Nose Reshaping Experience

Using dermal fillers like Juvéderm and Restylane, liquid rhinoplasty can temporarily address a wide range of aesthetic imperfections – including a dorsal hump, a drooping nasal tip, and overall asymmetry.

During this procedure, Dr. Moran will inject precise amounts of filler into the nose to recontour the area. It’s a safe and effective – albeit temporary – alternative to rhinoplasty.

The treatment takes around 15 minutes and the results are immediate. There is very minimal recovery time, and you can return to work the same day. There’s no anesthesia, and the results are reversible if you don’t like the outcome. However, if you like the results, they can last up to two years, depending on the filler used. At that point, you’ll need to return to our Nashville office to repeat the procedure and preserve your results.

Dr. Mary Lynn Moran - Rhinoplasty Recovery

Recovery from rhinoplasty is a crucial phase ensuring optimal results. Post-surgery, patients may experience swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort, mostly subsiding within two weeks. A nasal splint is typically worn for about a week to protect and support the reshaped structures. Breathing through the nose might be challenging initially due to internal swelling. It's essential to avoid strenuous activities and keep the head elevated to minimize swelling. Most visible signs of surgery dissipate within a month, but subtle changes and full healing can take up to a year. Following Dr. Moran's post-operative care instructions is vital for a successful outcome.
